The Woodland Kitchen

SHLTR Magazine Finalist

Competition 2, 2026

We were honored to be part of the SHLTR Magazine Competition 2. The brief was to create a kitchen and outdoor dining space that embraced the natural beauty and views of the an original, untouched, 1950’s modernist post and beam home located in the hills of Kentfield. With amazing views, we knew that embracing the view was paramount. The owners are avid cooks and bakers, so ensuring the space allowed for ease of baking requirements, an efficient work triangle, all while thinking about the functional needs of a young family forced the design to reveal itself.

The palette is natural; walnut, cedar, limestone, soapstone, and bronze. Embracing the original structure and materials create a sense of sympathetic merging of the original owners vision with the new owners vision for their family.
